Creative Discipleship is what we do during our small group time.
It is encouraging your teen to develop good habits in their Christian walk. We like to think of it as a growth chart for their spiritual growth, just as they have a chart at the Dr's. office for their physical growth. Each teen grows at a different rate physcially and likewise spiritually.
There are 4 things that help the small group leader chart the growth of your teen. These are...
- Quiet Time - spending time on a regular basis in the Word of God.
- Scripture Memory - hiding God's Word in their hearts.
- Selected Reading - reading biblically solid books.
- Christian Service - taking time to serve Christ by serving others in & out of church.
At the beginning of the club year, the small group leader will work with each teen individually to set growth goals for these 4 areas listed above. Then through out the year, in small group time, the leader will check in with the teens as a group and also individually to see how they are doing spiritually. Our desire and goal is to see the teens wanting to spend time reading the Bible, memorizing God's Word, reading good books, and serving others from the overflow of their relationship with Christ.
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?
Besides the ultimate goal of seeing your teen grow in their personal relationship with Christ, Word Of Life offers 2 scholarships for each teen who completes the program part of Creative Discipleship each year. If a student completes all 80 boxes on their "growth chart", passes the verse test (a fill-in-the-blank test at the end of the year), and has done at least 180 days in their Quiet Time they receive 25% off their week of WOL Summer Camp (around $84 value) AND they get a $500 scholarship toward the WOL Bible Institute.
This $500 college scholarship is also valid at other colleges and can vary in the exact amount for which they honor it. This list changes year to year and you can contact Pastor Hoffman for the latest list. Over 6 years of participation in youth group and in Creative Discipleship your teen can earn $3000 off their college cost!
